The objective of our work is to increase disease resistance in plants by improving the plant’s ability to detect and respond to pathogens. We are studying the very early interactions between the plant and pathogen to determine what mechanisms are active and how they operate. Our current focus is on active oxygen (AO) metabolism. This is a very complex metabolism that is involved in many aspects of cellular physiology. We are conducting research at several levels (enzymatic mechanisms, cellular physiology, transgenic plants studies, integrative bioinformatics modeling) to better comprehend AO involvement in disease and disease resistance.
