Plants can get Sick

Plants Can Get "Sick", Grow Poorly, and Die

Sometimes they get sick because

  • They do not get enough minerals from the soil
  • They do not get enough water or they get too much water
  • They do not get enough sun and warmth

Sometimes they get injured because

  • Animals like rabbits, deer and woodchucks eat them
  • Insects can eat them also

Sometimes they get sick because they get a disease

  • Diseases are caused by many microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi or viruses
  • Many microorganisms that cause plant diseases live in the soil
  • Small worms called nematodes (they live in the soil) attack their roots
